A Safer Journey into the Crypt
A small but welcome improvement has recently been made in the Crypt at the Church of St Clement Danes, with the installation of a new handrail to make access to the historic space safer and more comfortable for Members and visitors.
The idea for the handrail was first suggested by a Member around two or three years ago, following concerns about safety on the steps leading into the Crypt. Bringing the suggestion to fruition has taken some time, as St Clement Danes is a Grade I listed building and any changes to its historic fabric require careful consideration and the appropriate permissions.
We are delighted that the necessary approvals have now been secured and the new handrail is in place. While a relatively small addition, it is an important improvement that will make navigating the steps into the Crypt easier and safer, while respecting the character and heritage of this remarkable building.
